Die beiden Workshoprunden umfassen jeweils sechs Workshops und eine Satellite Activity. Sie können sich je für eine Session am Vormittag sowie am Nachmittag anmelden. «Impact» bleibt ein Hauptziel… und eine Herausforderung! Alle Stiftungen wollen etwas verbessern, am liebsten nachweislich. Aber die Messung ist keine Wissenschaft und das Reporting oft kein Vergnügen. In diesem Workshop fragen wir kritisch: Was funktioniert, was ist anerkannt, was muss man tun – und was sollte man lassen?

How to fund systems change in practice
With Joséphine Mitschke- Collande, Nicolas Krausz and Benjamin Brühwiler
Faced with multiple crises on a global level, there is a call for action to address social, environmental, political, and economic problems. How can foundations help tackle the root causes of these problems with limited but independent resources? In this interactive workshop, we will use practical examples (such as waste mitigation in Switzerland) as well as theorical frameworks to understand how foundations can develop impactful processes by embracing a systemic approach and using strategic levers.

The Arbeitskreis Kultur sets the stage for Trickster-p, an artist duo based in Ticino, consisting of Cristina Galbati and Ilija Luginbühl. Their latest creation EUTOPIA combines performance, installation and game design and calls into question outmoded biological, ecological and anthropological models to transform the theatre into a big action table. Around it, spectators are invited to a participatory experience whose results, always different, are the outcome of their own individual contributions.

Chancen und Herausforderungen für eine resiliente Anlagestrategie im aktuellen wirtschaftlichen Umfeld

Im Workshop werden insbesondere aktuelle Chancen und Herausforderung bezüglich Inflation, Wirkung, Nachhaltigkeit oder Wirtschaftswachstum beleuchtet. Im Workshop kommen drei Perspektiven zu Wort: Zunächst die Perspektive eines Beraters, der Stiftungen und NPOs in dieser Zeit begleitet. Zweitens soll der Input aus dem Bankenbereich helfen, mögliche Anlagestrategien zu identifizieren und drittens berichten Vertreter einer Stiftung von der Umsetzung im Tagesgeschäft. Der Workshop will den Teilnehmerinnen und Teilnehmern praxisrelevante Hilfestellung geben und die Möglichkeit ihre Fragen direkt an Experten zu stellen.

It is often noted that giving money away is harder than making it in the first place, yet there is limited understanding of how best to support those who wish to use their private resources to contribute to the public good. Philanthropy advisors are growing in number but remain a largely overlooked and little understood part of the philanthropy eco-system.
In this workshop, Beth Breeze and Emma Beeston will discuss the findings of the first global study of philanthropy advising, which were recently published in their new book entitled ‘Advising Philanthropists: Principles and Practice’. Attendees will learn about the emergence of this profession, what the role of the philanthropy advisor entails, the practicalities involved in finding and supporting clients, and the wide range of skills and knowledge needed to excel at working with donors.

The opportunity to redistribute the cards in an equitable way to ensure a better future for tomorrow’s generations. Whether you donate your time, expertise or money, there are many ways to become a philanthropist. The Open Philanthropy workshop will present two philanthropic initiatives, Demain’pact and Catapult, where donors have given their power to give to young Swiss people in the French and German speaking regions. Both initiatives, although different, are based on similar principles: giving young people the opportunity to support projects for young people, by young people. How does it work? Where do these initiatives come from? What are the learnings so far? The speakers, accompanied by representatives of Demain’pact and Catapult, will share their experiences and learning.

Au travers de mises en situation et de discussions en petits groupes, nous explorerons les mécanismes sous-jacents de ces relations. Nous imaginerons comment améliorer la collaboration avec les porteurs de projets pour plus de sérénité et d’impact sur le terrain.

La numérisation engendre un potentiel et ouvre de nouveau champ d’actions en matière d’efficience et meilleure gouvernance, par exemple notamment grâce à l’exploitation et la protection des données, aux algorithmes et à l’intelligence artificielle. Des questions éthiques se posent toutefois dans ce contexte. Ces notions et instruments joueront un rôle de plus en plus important dans la vie des fondations. Lors de cet atelier, ces sujets serontdiscutés y compris dans la perspective des autorités de surveillance et desfondations.

On the eve of the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration for Human Rights and with the growth of philanthropy, in Switzerland and abroad, it is time to reflect on the role of foundations vis-à-vis human rights. Which role can and should philanthropy play in promoting human rights? Should human rights be considered in philanthropic giving? What would a rights-based approach to philanthropy look like? What are the links between Human Rights and wellbeing? What is the role of philanthropy toward policy development and implementation, and Human Rights compliance? – To reflect on these questions, we will have the opportunity to listen to two grant-making foundations, one having embraced a rights-based approach from its beginning and another one which seeks to promote rights and wellbeing, as well as two right-based NGOs, which either receives funds from individuals and private foundations only or receives funds from both public and private sources.

Wie stelle ich die Verbindung mit dem Stiftungszweck her? Und: was nützt mir dies überhaupt für meine Stiftungsarbeit? SwissFoundations arbeitet an einer Best Practice Empfehlungen. Wir stellen den aktuellen Stand vor und laden zur Diskussion ein.

Unternehmerische Fördermodelle, Fördertätigkeiten im Ausland und andere im Zusammenhang mit der Steuerbefreiung diskutierte Themen

Stiftungen, die eine Steuerbefreiung erlangen und behalten wollen, haben bestimmte Voraussetzungen zu beachten. In der Praxis handelt es sich in der Regel um folgende Fragen: Steuerliche Qualifikation des Stiftungszwecks als gemeinnützig; Förderung von nicht steuerbefreiten Personen; Fördertätigkeit im Ausland; Social Entrepreneurship, Förderung von Start-ups als wirtschaftliche Tätigkeit; Entschädigung der Stiftungsratsmitglieder. In all diesen Fragen bestehen keine klaren gesetzlichen Festlegungen. Manche kantonalen Steuerbehörden folgen weitherum als veraltet und unbefriedigend empfundenen Verlautbarungen. Der Workshop beleuchtet diese „Hotspots“.
