The recent mapping conducted by the Research Working Group revealed a strong commitment among foundations to research: 80% support applied research, and 60% invest in implementation. This is a powerful sign of engagement – yet a critical gap remains between scientific discovery and its translation into lasting societal benefit. This gap presents both an opportunity and a responsibility for foundations to enhance the pathways from research to public dialogue, policy, and impact.

The effectiveness of this translation hinges on the mechanisms that link research outcomes to societal benefit. How are results disseminated? Who is engaged as a stakeholder? Is there meaningful dialogue with policymakers? These factors determine whether innovations – from wastewater monitoring to advanced air purification – contribute to societal resilience.

To dive deeper into these questions, the webinar will feature insights from Pour Demain, an independent think tank with extensive experience in bringing science-based proposals into public debate and policy.

Join us as we explore how foundations, in collaboration with think tanks, can strengthen the bridge between scientific knowledge and societal implementation.

This webinar is organized by the Research Working Group of SwissFoundations in collaboration with Pour Demain.

About Pour Demain:
Founded in 2022, Pour Demain is dedicated to strengthening societal resilience against health crises. Through evidence-based proposals, they connect science, public administration, and society. In this webinar, we will welcome the following input speakers:

  • Patrick Stadler, Director of Pour Demain, brings deep experience in innovation ecosystems.
  • Laurent Bächler, Program Lead, focuses on cross-sector community engagement and the translation of scientific knowledge into policy.

This webinar is part of a new series organised by the Research working group. The series addresses current issues and challenges in the research funding area.
Part 1 (23 October 2024): Use of AI in research project evaluations
Part 2 (5 December 2024): #ScientainmentGRS: experiences and insights from 10 years of supporting science communication
Part 3 (15 January 2025): The Potential of Citizen Science and Participatory Research

The webinars are open to all SwissFoundations members. Each webinar will be recorded and made available to our members.
