From waste burning to clean production

Fondation Lombard Odier

Pour les membres

Waste pollution has a negative impact on health, biodiversity and climate change. It is estimated that a reduction of 15 to 20% of worldwide green-house gases emissions could be achieved through sustainable waste management. However, driven by rapid urbanization and growing populations, global annual waste generation is expected to grow by 70% by 2050 unless urgent action is taken. This workshop is the occasion to discuss these issues with Christie Keith, International Coordinator and Executive Director of the U.S. office of the Global Alliance for Inci-nerator Alternatives (GAIA). GAIA is a worldwide alliance of more than 800 grassroots groups, non-governmental organizations, and individuals in over 90 countries whose ultimate vision is a just, toxic-free world without incineration. Their goal is clean production and the creation of a closed-loop, materials-efficient economy where all products are composted, reused, repaired, or recycled.
